A time to sing and a time to cry: a how to session on how to mark happy and sad transitions at a mikveh

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Ever wonder how to mark a transition in a uniquely Jewish way? Birthday? New job? Retirement? End of shiva? Beginning of chemotherapy? Ever wonder if there is room for you if you for you at a mikveh if you have a tattoo, a physical limitation, or are GLBT? Three mikveh guides from Mayyim Hayyim will explain what a mikveh is and how to create a meaningful ceremony for any liminal, transitional moment. We will look, briefly, at texts about traditional mikveh, the Seven Kavanot of Mayyim Hayyim, some new ceremonies that have been developed, and a cheat sheet explaining the seven steps to creating your own ritual. We will model one ceremony and give participants an opportunity to begin crafting their own ceremony.
