This session will provide an overview of Jewish life in the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. We will discuss their post-WWII, post-Soviet history, current programming, and relationship with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (aka JDC or "the Joint"), the world's largest Jewish humanitarian assistance organization.

Esther Burson

Esther Burson recently returned from Tallinn, Estonia, where she spent a year as a Jewish Service Corps Fellow for the Joint Distribution Committee. During her time in the Baltics, Esther developed Jewish youth programming for local communities, attended Jewish conferences throughout the Baltics, and tried to speak Russian.
